Babel Table Lamp

Designed by Àngel Jové in 1971, the Babel Table Lamp is a monumental light sculpture inspired by the biblical Tower of Babel.

Its distinctive stepped form is handcrafted entirely from alabaster, solid at the base and hollowed through the upper section to softly diffuse the light. The natural veining, colour and translucency of the stone vary from one piece to another, making every Babel lamp unique.

Originally conceived for Barcelona’s emerging nightlife scene during Spain’s democratic transition, Babel challenged the perception of alabaster at the time and transformed it into an expressive and atmospheric source of light.
